Field Notes: Boston

"I guess God made Boston on a wet sunday."

- Raymond Chandler

Three degrees Fahrenheit. Three. That was the warmest it got on one of our day in Boston. And it was going to get colder the following week.

On a glance you might see Boston as a hip, modern, fancy city with some truly delicious food, refined craft brews, and fine cocktails. An educated city with over 30 colleges, including the most prestigious universities like MIT, Harvard, Cambridge.

But below that you might also see Boston as a hard town to survive in. One of the first cities to protest against British rule and where the first battles were fought for independence. Where heroes are born and buried. And where that independence and freedom have been tested over the years. We only spend a few days in Boston, and I’m not even going to pretend to know and understand this city. But having spent the days exploring the city, reading history, taking in the atmosphere, and experiencing the bitter winter, I’ve come away with a lot more respect for Bostonians.
